Farm Innovators Drain Plug De-Icer For Rubbermaid? Stock Tanks Model DPH-15, 1,500-Watt

Good quality product
Confusingly this unit shipped with a flyer from the manufacturer offering to sell me a thermal cube to turn the unit on at 40 degrees and below, but this unit already does that.
It is a perfect fit for our Rubbermaid stock tank, unlike the 'universal' unit we replaced.
The element is kept away from our inquisitive horses with no risk of it being pulled from the tank.

When installed, you lose the ability to use a drain valve to empty the tank. We bought a replacement drain valve STOCK TANK DRAIN PLUG - Gray and drilled a hole on the other side of the tank so we can still easily empty the tank.
It works but costs a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$
I bought this unit as a way to heat my 100 gallon water tank for my horses. It works really well in my rubber-maid tank, no leaks or anything. The water temperature is cool to touch, not warm as other people have described but then I have a 100 gallon tank. However, for anyone that is concerned about their electric bill, take it from me, it will double it. I did not realize this. I will have to look for another solution. I wish I had researched this first. A friend told me that using this 1,500-watt device is like having 15 100 watt light bulbs on 24 hours a day. Enough said.
Works as designed
I was worried about the leaking around the connection that I had read but with the proper tools was able to tighten it right the first time. No problem with water being too warm, keeps it cool. Electricity usage appears minimal although I am only using it at night right now and our New England winter has been mild so far. Design keeps it away from my curious horses. Only complaint is the short cord.
