Inexpensive and Effective
People are lazy. This is an old school gate; there are no magic buttons or levers that make setting it up and taking it down a .0001 second process. If you didn't like how these gates held up in 1990, then don't buy this one. I; however, have no issue with finding the right slot to lock the gate into nor do I have an issue with lining it up, hopping over it, or RE-setting it up when I take it down. If you don't want to deal with a few extra seconds to set it up or hop over it, then go pay too much for a magical gate that sings you to sleep. We use this for our dog, but I know it would stop a baby b/c it locks FIRMLY in place.
Great gate for the price
This gate is great and it didn't cost me a lot of money either! I have two small dogs (19 pounds each) and one in particular would always get into rooms that he shouldn't be in. I bought a couple of these to try them out and they definitely keep both dogs from going into places I want to keep them out of and they fit well in the doorways. I would definitely buy them again.
precision gate.
I've had one similar to this for years and its at its final life, my daughter has managed to break the plastic on that one so hopefully this one will stand up to a destructive 4 yr old and 1yr old. but my cons may out weigh that.
Pros: it fits in my 35 1/4" stairway. which is great because i cannot get any of the plastic gates to fit there because for some reason higher up the wall gets slightly wider than the bottom. and these types of gates (the wood ones) bow ever so slightly to accommodate for that and i can push and pull on the top of the gate and it wont move.
Cons: the plastic handle seems very flimsy along with the wood of the gate (doesn't seem as strong as the previous gate I've had), so i have a feeling that or the wood is going to break.
as far as that metal thing that holds the handle from bowing out... the screw wont stay tight so that is a complete pain to get the gate closed quick i cannot just throw it up and close it i have to guide it...
