Works great
I bought this, not because I have multiple dogs and am too lazy to fill the bucket, but because I have one dog in particular that likes to dunk his entire face into the bucket and then drip water everywhere. He also drinks really really fast causing a splash. Well, he can still dunk his face if he wants but he hasn't yet. And since he still has puppy brain, the fountain gives him a good distraction and slows him down... my hardwood is very grateful as are my socks.
Good Product
Bought the product for my Doberman. We tried the Platinum but it was way too small. More water ended up on the ground than his mouth due to the shallow and small bowl. I went with the Outdoor over the Big Dog because of the double filtration.
The only negative I have with the Outdoor is I wish the water depth stayed 1-1.5" shallower than its current level. My dog can still kick water out the side at its normal level. I sometimes don't leave water in the storage containers so the level can drop to prevent the loss of water (I live in a country that requires drinking from bottled water so every ounce counts!)
It took him about a week to get used to it. It's kept indoors only.
Loud and Heavy, but Good - Even for Cats!
Heed the name well - there are reasons why this is designated an OUTDOOR DOG fountain. The unit makes some noise between the motor and the splashing of the water. My fountain "spits" droplets outside its well sides when both containers are full. When we had dogs none of that would have mattered, as they were noisy and messy, too. There is a sponge pre-filter that can be pulled out and scoured. The replaceable filters cost $8.99 per twopack and each can last for about a month. Keep in mind the unit is heavy duty plastic, so once placed, you want to leave it there. Filled with water, it's almost impossible to move. That's good news for people with big dogs, as it's less likely to get knocked around.
With any outdoor fountain, it should be placed where leaves and dirt are less likely to find their way into it, bad enough that there'll be dog saliva and dirt from the dog's mouth. If you live in a freeze zone remember that fresh water, even when circulating, can affect the pump...
