Ideal Pet Products Medium Ruff-Weather Pet Door Wall Kit

Performs as advertised
I installed this pet door through the wall, replacing a single flap unit that was worn out.
I also ordered the wall kit, which I consider mandatory for this type of intallation.
This is not an installation for those that have trouble changing a faucet washer or assembling kids toys.
I had to build a cedar frame on the outside to allow the door to seal properly. This involved cutting the cedar siding and the use of a number of carpentry tools. I also trimmed to fit the baseboard molding on the inside wall. Of course, if this is a new installation you must also cut hole in the wall using the included template.

As far as use, it took about 3 days for our 12 year old dog to decide that the 2nd flap was OK and would not hurt her. I also had to install a piece of carpet on the "floor" of the wall kit, as she does not like the slick surfaces.
This unit obviously seals well and will make a significant difference to control air flow into the house. It is well...
Five dollars worth of plastic and bolts for forty bucks.....but worth it.
Your forty+ dollars will get you a little box containing a stack of plastic panels that you assemeble into the tunnel and four long bolts with screw heads. Initially, I was not pleased. However, it made the thru-the-wall installation of the door a snap and it worked perfectly. It is a very good system and the associated dog door is worth the money. I would have spent 4 or 5 hours figuring out and building other options to the tunnel.
Not a good fit
I bought this to go with the Ideal Pet Products MEDIUM pet door as I wanted to go through a wall. Poor design, the long screws secure/retainer system is the worst. It also leaves a gap of 3/4 inch in the bottom of the door. I really had to work at this extension to get it to work with their medium pet door. Should of been a one hour job but turned into a three hour job to get it secure and correct for pet use. And I'm sure at one point in time I will have to redo this install. What a complete waste of time and money! They include four long bolts when you need six...go figure.
