You get what you pay for
I agree that this is by far one of the most expensive gates on the market. However, you really do get what you pay for with this gate. The entire construction is high quality from the gate itself to the mounting plates and even the screws (I have had cheap gates where the screw threads were so soft they stripped before I got them in all the way). The installation is simple and quick, and the instructions are clear and well-written (IE - they don't read like they were translated from Chinese with an internet translation program). The gate itself adjusts easily. The two-point latch mechanism is smooth and does not stick. The gate swings easily and latches with little force. The installation is quite secure (it supported my full weight). The free-hanging mount is great as there is nothing to trip over. Also, if you live in an old house (or apartment) you know that many of the doorways can be abnormally narrow. Most hardware-mount gates have a minimum mount width of about 30 inches. This...
Good Idea - Poor Implementation
We purchased this gate for the top of our stairs as it looks sharp. It arrived in good condition. It has a few manufactuing flaws which for the price should not exsit... but it's made in China.
1. After reading previouse reviews I decided to slide the pieces together to make sure there was no binding. The extension/spacer bars slid on and off very nice as they and the gate have a SQUARE CHANNEL. Next the Mounting plate slid on the gate with mild force. The mounting plates DO NOT have a square channel, instead the channel is misshapped with a bulge. You could see the plastic shaving from the gate hinge form as the two pieces sild together. I had to cut excess plactic in a few locations to achieve easy sliding of the gate to the mounting plate. Finally, Once they clicked/locked into place it was impossible to depress the latch and remove the gate from the mounting plate do to the latches construction. I had to cut excess material out from under the latch inorder to...
Great Gate!
Having lived with a tension-mounted gate with a threshold and a mere 16-18" opening at the top of our basement stairs, we were ready for a full opening gate with no threshold. This gate more than fit the bill. Installing is easy in terms of only having to drill 6 holes, however be warned: the gate only comes with wood screws and plaster anchors. If you intend to install the gate onto drywall with no studs, you will need to purchase your own drywall screws and wall anchors. Our installation went through drywall and into studs, so we were fine.
The gate's hinge and latch plate slide into the wall anchors with a T-shaped connector. Once installed it is VERY sturdy and solid, but getting the hinge into the wall anchor took a lot of force and some of the plastic on the hinge connector was peeled away because the fit was so tight. The gate is billed to be removable, and it is, but the fit on our is so tight I don't really want to try it.
Once installed, the fitting...
